Rod Stewart Diagnosed with COVID, Cancels 2 More Las Vegas Shows After Dropping Performances Due to Strep Throat

Rod Stewart is dropping more shows from his schedule. The “Maggie May” singer, 79, announced on Instagram that he has canceled two more North American shows on his schedule after catching COVID-19 — a few days after calling off his Aug. 7 concert in Las Vegas due to strep throat.

A statement from his team shared on Friday, Aug. 9, read: “We regret to announce that tonight’s Rod Stewart’s concert in Stateline, NV and his August 10 concert in Lincoln, CA have been postponed as the singer recovers from a summer strain of COVID-19.”

The statement noted that the Stateline and Lincoln concerts have been rescheduled to Aug. 20 and Aug. 18, respectively. His team noted that fans who bought tickets “should hold on to” them as they will “be honored for the rescheduled shows.”

Several fans voiced their support for Stewart in response to the announcement, with many wishing the singer a speedy recovery. One fan wrote, “Be well, Sir Rod!” while others wished him to “get well soon.”

The British pop performer announced earlier this week that he contracted strep throat and could not take the stage for his scheduled performance for his Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Aug. 7.

“Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me,” he wrote. “My deepest regrets for any inconvenience this has caused.”

Stewart added that he had “been looking forward to” the performance — which would have marked the 200th show of his 13-year residency at the venue — “for so long,” writing, “I’m absolutely gutted.”

The canceled show was originally intended to close out the star’s critically-acclaimed residency, billed as The Hits, which first kicked off in Las Vegas in August 2011, before Stewart commenced his 2024 North American tour in Stateline, Nev.

However, Stewart shared some positive news on Instagram on Aug. 7, saying that the residency is “coming back for an encore” next year. “We’ll now be returning in 2025 and I hope to see you all there.💔,” he said in his announcement post.

The new slate of shows will take place in the same venue at 7:30 p.m. from March 12-22 and May 29-June 8 for what Stewart calls the Encore Shows, and will include his biggest career hits, plus "surprises" from his legendary song catalog.

Meanwhile, his North American tour is scheduled to hit six different cities across the U.S., running through to September. He is then expected to play several shows in Europe in December before returning stateside to resume his Las Vegas residency in 2025.
